Military Driver Training

XPI has a strong background supporting the Ministry of Defence (MOD) in evaluating the effectiveness of military driver training and the delivery of driver training systems.

In December 2014, we won a £20m project to design and manufacture 28 driver training simulators for General Dynamics Land Systems UK to be delivered to the MOD in support of the AJAX vehicle programme.

The simulators currently being developed are a mixture of static and full-motion for training drivers on all six variants of AJAX. The programme is a UK first, as ‘six degrees of freedom’ simulators have not previously been used within the British Army Land environment.

The high fidelity representation of the AJAX vehicle provides a realistic and fully flexible training environment that facilitates the MOD’s current and future training expectations.

The AJAX driving simulators’ modular design is based on proven XPI in-house technology which can readily be adapted to support other vehicle types. This meets the customer’s aspirations for reusable and reconfigurable training simulators. It is the first solution to follow the MOD Defence, Training and Education Coherence (DTEC) rule set, incorporating approved standard interfaces.

The first simulators come into service early 2018, in support of the first phase of driver training for the production of the AJAX vehicles.
